The Blue Wires will be playing the legen-wait for it-dary Middle East, upstairs, in Cambridge on Friday September 5th. This should be a great show. If you missed the Blue Wires first show a couple of weeks ago at the Abbey Lounge, then you should definitely checkout this show. It’s almost unheard of for a new band to get a Friday night gig at the Middle East, especially for it’s second show! Not only that, but the Blue Wires are headlining!

Finally! Some Music!

You asked for it, and you’ve got it! The Blue Wires have finally released the three song demo known unofficially as ‘The Elf Sessions‘! It’s been a long road, kind of, but we’re ready to share of our hard work with the world.

Personally, I would like to thank the entire band for all their hard work on these songs. Everyone pulled their weight, and we’ve got some pretty great demos now to show for it. I would also like thank my beautiful wife, Rachel, and our wonderful son, Dylan, for being so understanding on all those nights that Daddy had to slip downstairs for a few hours to work on the songs. It’s very much so appreciated it.

What’s next for the Blue Wires? Shows, of course! We’re working on booking our first shows, so keep checking back here for more details.

We’re back…

After taking all of April off, the Blue Wires, are finally back to work again. We’ve been rehearsing the last couple of weeks, writing some great new songs, and are looking to start booking some gigs. All good things.

Now, what do you think of the new site? Hmm..? Good, bad, ugly? There are some photos up now too, which is pretty awesome, and about time. Hopefully more photos will follow.

There’s going to be some music, finally, that’s going to be posted. We’re just about done mixing three songs. Two are already ‘in the can’, with a third destined to be finished this weekend.

It’s pretty exciting times here with the Blue Wires, so back, hold on to your hat, and enjoy the ride!

I miss my fish

Today the subject came up at work, as it does, about the movie The Incredible Mr. Limpet. Don’t ask me how this subject came up, I’m really not sure, but the subject came up. I started talking about how, when I was a kid, I would watch this movie every single time it came on TV. I have such fond memories of this film, it’s definitely one of Don Knotts better works, right up there with the Ghost and Mr. Chicken.

During the conversation I mentioned that I used to have a fish named Mr. Limpet (2000 - 2003). I got Mr. Limpet, who was a Japanese fighting fish, as a Christmas gift from my aunt. She has quite a funny story about getting him home from the fish store tucked in her shirt because of the weather, but I’ll leave her to tell that story, not me.

I loved that fish. I cared deeply for that fish. When Mr. Limpet finally passed on, in September of 2003. I buried him in the backyard and said goodbye to him. I haven’t owned a fish since. Not that I don’t want to mind you, but because I want to remember my special connection I had with him.

These days my life is filled with the joy of my son, Dylan. He’s seven and a half months old and he fills each of my days with wonder and excitement. I love him with my whole heart. Sometimes when Dylan and I are playing and there’s a fish in a book, or something like Finding Nemo comes on TV, I think about Mr. Limpet, and I think about how much him and Dylan would’ve liked each other.

I miss you Mr. Limpet, I hope you’re happy wherever you are.

April Hibernation

So its April, A HUGE one for one of our mates, who will be getting married very soon, a very exciting time. We all send our best wishes to them both.
This Saturday is our last rehersal prior to our “booking” stage. There are photos to be taken, more songs to be written, and sets to be well, set. Overall though, in The Blue Wires land, its going to be a quiet few weeks, as we all go off and attend to our lives. That is not to say that we are going away, or unplugging. Just the calm before the storm. A great time for settling in, watching Spring take hold, and penning a new song or two in our little private worlds.
I, for one, am very excited about sharing our work to date with everyone out there. We have some kick ass tunes ready for general consumption, and we have evolved into a great little unit. So this blog is looking forward, to May,to the time past our little break. In the mean time, I plan on writing a bit more about some very non-Blue Wires topics (bluegrass music, the nature of corporate careers, and a few other topics as yet to be decided, maybe even more thoughts on elevator politics.) Until May…cheers. I can’t wait to see you all out there, enjoying our hard work, while we enjoy sharing it with you.

Second floor elevator people

I hate, I mean hate, second floor elevator people! I hate them with such a passion. These are people who take the elevator up to the second floor, or worse take it down from the second floor. THE STAIRS ARE RIGHT NEXT TO THE ELEVATOR! WALK!! These people all appear to be perfectly healthy. They seem to walk just fine coming in/out of the elevator. Why can’t they take the stairs? I see them standing there waiting for the elevator. Waiting. The time they waited they could’ve been where they wanted to be!

I understand that if you are unable to walk up and down stairs, you need to take the elevator up/down one flight of stairs. I’m fine with that. If you heavy things, sure it’s easier to take the elevator. But if you are perfectly healthy and able, the walk up the freakin’ stairs!!

It’s just so unbelievable. I really really really hate these people, in case you can’t tell. Get a little exercise.
